WEIGHT RATING

Trailer Weights and Definitions

Please see our complete list of trailer weights.

You can also find a list of weight definitions here.

Tow Vehicles

All  automotive manufacturers rate their own vehicles. Once you determine what  trailer you want, let your local automotive dealers know the GVWR (Gross  Vehicle Weight Rating) of your trailer and they will let you know what vehicles  they have that would be capable of towing this weight.

Maximum Loaded Trailer Weight

The maximum allowable fully loaded weight of the trailer is obtained by subtracting the towing vehicle's GVW (Gross Vehicular Weight) from its GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating).

Tow vehicles also have a maximum hitch weight that must be followed. See your local tow vehicle manufacturer's representative for intuctions and advice on your tow vehicle's capabilities.

The towing vehicle's braking system is rated for operation at GVWR (GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING), NOT at the GCWR (GROSS COMBINED WEIGHT RATING). A separate functioning brake system is required for any towed vehicles or trailers weighing more than 1000 lbs. (450 kg) when fully loaded. NEVER exceed the GVWR (GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING), or the GAWR (GROSS AXLE WEIGHT RATING) specified on a motorhome certification label or as specified for a tow vehicle by its manufacturer. Also NEVER exceed the weight ratings of trailer hitch installed on a tow vehicle or motorhome. Failure to heed any part of this warning could result in loss of control of the motorhome and towed vehicle or trailer and may cause an accident and serious injury. For specified towed vehicle braking requirements, consult the tow vehicle's, chassis', or motorhome's manufacturer or their respective owner's manual.

Wet Weight

The weight of the vehicle with the fuel, freshwater and propane tanks full. To help in determining weights, the following should be useful:
Gasoline weighs 6.3 pounds per gallon
Diesel fuel weighs 6.6 pounds per gallon
Propane weighs 4.25 pounds per gallon
Water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon

Cleaning the aluminum exterior of Airstream Trailers

For units with clear-coated aluminum we recommend washing the exterior about very 4 weeks or as needed. Wax with a non-abrasive mild wax in the spring and fall. Use a clean, soft cloth and always rub lightly with the grain of the aluminum.
